“Don’t be calling us names!”

The Dáil was suspended for five minutes on Wednesday afternoon when an argument broke out between three of the TDs present.

Leas Ceann Comhairle Pat the Cope Gallagher was forced to put a stop to proceedings when Deputies Danny Healy-Rae, Michael Healy-Rae and Fianna Fáil’s Marc MacSharry all found themselves in a very heated debate.

Things began to spiral out when Deputy Danny Healy Rae raised the issue of farmers being given no payment after commonages were burned, and asked that Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to intervene on the matter.

Following that, Deputy Michael Healy-Rae requested to speak on the same issue, Gallagher asked if he had a card.

Deputy MacSharry then weighed in, objecting to the interruption to the order of business, to which Gallagher was told to control himself or action would be taken.

As the three men continued to shout back and forth at each other, Gallagher declared that they were all circumventing the regulations and suspended the Dail for five minutes.
