The Taoiseach has welcomed the appointment.

Dara Calleary has been named as the replacement for Robert Troy in his Minister of State role, following the latter’s resignation last week.

On Wednesday (31 August), the Government announced it had appointed Calleary as Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin nominated Calleary for the role, stating:

“Dara brings considerable experience to this role, having already served in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

“A professional and diligent worker, I have no doubt Dara will hit the ground running in helping indigenous Irish companies face the significant challenges and opportunities ahead, as well as overseeing important legislative reforms of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board.”

Calleary has represented Mayo in Dail Éireann since the 2007 general election and served in a number of roles in Government in the past.

In July 2020, he was appointed as the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine but resigned the following month after he attended the controversial Oireachtas Golf Society dinner held in Clifden in Galway during strict Covid restrictions.
