Darius Campbell Danesh, who shot to fame following his appearance on Pop Idol, has died suddenly at the age of 41.

Danesh was found dead in his apartment in America on Tuesday (15 August), according to a statement released by his family shared by BBC News. No foul play has been suspected by authorities.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh,” the statement began.

“Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office.

“The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.

Danesh caught attention thanks to a unique rendition of Britney Spears hit ‘Baby… One More Time’ during his time on reality TV series Pop Idol in 2002. He finished third in the competition behind Will Young and Gareth Gates.

He would go to have chart success with his single ‘Colourblind’ before becoming a regular fixture on London’s West End stage.
