The university has distanced itself from the views expressed in the email sent by a former member of staff, and disabled the account.
Dublin City University has distanced itself from an email sent to its entire academic staff by "an individual who had retired from St. Patrick College, Drumcondra a number of years ago."
The email contained statements about the personal lives of Minister Katherine Zappone and her late partner Ann Louise Gilligan, who passed away this week.
The individual who wrote the email asked those received it to 'share this communication,' before writing:
"I valued Ann Louise's and Katherine's friendship all the more because it did not prevent me giving expression to the fact that samesex attraction is a disorder that can be overcome and affected individuals restored to orderly sexual orientation; that people are robbed of their human dignity by being defined solely in terms of sexual attraction and grouped under the hideous acronym LGBT; and that a (sexual) relationship between two women or between two men cannot be conjugal, cannot be consumated (sic) and cannot constitute marriage."
