The Defences Forces have started a new recruitment drive for the Army and Naval Reserves

Does a career in the military interest you?

Or maybe you just want to do something different with your weekends. Imagine spending your weekend shooting a semi-automatic Steyr AUG rifle or enjoying a high-speed trip on a Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat.

Sounds interesting, right?

Well, that could be what the future holds for you as the Defence Forces are currently recruiting Army and Naval Service Reservists. Members of the part-time Reserve Defence Forces (RDF) receive military training and experience everything from tactical training to marksmanship training. Plus you can also make some great friendships as you work and train within the Defence Forces.

The RDF also have a vital role to play in state security so you could make a difference in a crisis situation by providing support to the Permanent Defence Forces (PDF). That could involve anything from providing aid to the civil power to barrack security tasks.

Regardless of what you do for a living, you could find a Reserve unit that’s a perfect match for your skills and interests. Whether it’s in the Infantry, the Engineer Corps or the Naval Service Reserve, there’s a role for you.

If you’re thinking about joining the PDF, getting involved in the RDF gives you a chance to gain first-hand military experience and it’s an ideal stepping stone into the PDF. It’s also a great opportunity to test yourself and meet like-minded people who also want to make a difference.

Recruitment is open to men and women aged between 18 and 35 and applications are being accepted until 6 September, 2017.

If your weekend involved getting together with good friends and firing Semi-Automatic Steyr AUG rifles, being part of an artillery gun crew, or travelling at high speed on a RHIB, then you already know about the unique challenges and attractions of the Reserve Defence Forces. If not, maybe you should check it out! The Defence Forces are now accepting applications* for recruits in both the Army and Naval Service Reserve.
