Well… shit.

SIPTU members at Iranrod Éireann have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action after talks fell through at the Workplace Relations Commission.

It’s likely that rail passengers will face disruption in the run up to Christmas after talks aimed at solving the pay dispute collapsed without agreement.

SIPTU members voted by 84% in favour of industrial action in a ballot that was held today in Liberty Hall, the headquarters of SIPTU.

Following the collapse of the talks yesterday, the Irish Rail trade union group said: “Despite the best efforts of the WRC, Irish Rail senior management have once again demonstrated their total disdain for their own staff and those that rely on Irish Rail services.”

It’s expected that there will be rolling strikes by rail workers in the run up to Christmas.
