Donald Trump becomes first US President to be impeached twice

Donald Trump has made history and become the first President to be impeached twice.

A majority of the US House of Representatives have voted to impeach Donald Trump, formally charging him with inciting an insurrection.

The vote was held a week after a violent mob of Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol Hill building in Washington.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi called on Republicans to vote to impeach Trump, stating that he must be "convicted".

She said: "We know that the President of the United States incited this insurrection, this armed rebellion against our common country. He must go, he is a clear and present danger to the nation that we all love.

"The President must be impeached and I believe that the President must be convicted by the Senate."

While Trump is now banned from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other sites, Trump released a statement on the White House website.

On Wednesday night, he said: "In light of reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there must be NO violence, NO lawbreaking and NO vandalism of any kind.

"That is not what I stand for and it is not what America stands for. I call on ALL Americans to help ease tensions and calm tempers."

Under the US Constitution, impeachment in the House now means a trial must take place in the Senate.
