President of the United States Donald Trump has extended an invitation to Taoiseach Enda Kenny to visit the White House on St Patrick’s Day.

During a press briefing earlier today, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer confirmed that Enda Kenny had been invited by Donald Trump to the White House.

“I was asked yesterday,” Spicer said, “About the status of the invitation to Prime Minister Kenny of Ireland to visit the United States on St Patrick’s Day and I’m pleased to announce that the President has extended that invitation. It happened during the transition period.

“We look forward to the Prime Minister attending,” Spicer finished.

The question was raised yesterday by RTE’s Washington Correspondent Caitriona Perry.

Earlier today, Donald Trump signed two executive orders during a visit to Department of Homeland Security headquarters, that would direct the organisation to build the wall, increase the number of border patrol agents and increase the deportation of immigrants.
