Trump, who is running for the Republican nomination for presidential candidacy, has increased his notoriety in the past few months – not least because of his aggressive anti-immigration stance.
Along with cutting the J1 programme, Trump would also build an enormous wall to (purportedly) keep Mexicans from entering through the US border.
He is taking much the same approach to his Doonbeg golf club and resort in Co. Clare, only this time he is trying to keep out the Atlantic Ocean.
Erosion is threatening to do serious damage to Trump’s links course, where he intends to invest a further €45 million over the coming years.
Trump’s solution is to build a 200,000 tonne wall along Doughmore beach which developers have promised will not damage the protected fauna and flora of the region, such as the vertigo angustior snail (pictured below).
