Oisín Merritt from Donegal woke up from a month long coma and asked ‘How are Brazil getting on in the World Cup?’

The young Finn Harps footballer fell from a balcony in the popular holiday area of Santa Ponsa and had been in a coma for the last month in a Spanish hospital.

This is a truly remarkable story considering at one stage in his coma he was showing no signs of improvement, prompting a huge online campaign for his recovery.

The 19-year old faces a long recovery but his mind was clearly on the football as he had a bet on Brazil in the World Cup.

His sister Tara revealed that some of the first words from Oisín were about how his favourite team, Brazil, were getting on and whether or not they were still in the competition.

“Oisín started to eat and drink water for the first time yesterday afternoon and has continued this today.

“Today Oisín started to speak and say his first words to me, he is asking about the World Cup and how Brazil are doing, as he has a bet on!

“Thank you everyone so much for your prayers and good wishes,” she said

Everyone at JOE Towers would like to wish Oisín a speedy and full recovery… and offer commiserations on last night’s result.

H/T to Donegal Daily and Eugene Merritt for the info.
