Driver dies after car collides with wall and catches fire in Laois

Tragic news.

A driver has died in Laois after their car collided with a wall and caught fire.

The single-vehicle collision occurred at around 2.45pm on Friday (24 June) on the Athy Road in Stradbally.

In a statement on Friday night, a Garda spokesperson said the driver was the sole occupant of the car and that their details are currently unknown.

Their body has been taken to to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where a post-mortem will be conducted.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, and were travelling on the Athy Road (R428) or surrounding areas between 2.30pm and 3.15pm are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
