Dublin Airport issues warning to parents over banned children’s items

A number of items have been confiscated in the last week.

Certain items, including toy guns and hurls are forbidden from going through security.

Posting on X, a spokesperson for Dublin Airport said: "Travelling with kids this summer? A reminder that hurls and toy guns can’t be taken through security in hand luggage.

"If you need to take them, please check them in. Here’s just some of those that have been confiscated by the team over the past week."

Dublin Airport issues warning to parents over banned children's items

The X post showed photos of numerous items seized by airport officials over the last week.

They included a number of NERF toy guns, some hurls and a wooden padel.

Someone replied to the post asking, "Who brings a hurl and sliotar to a holiday resort?" to which the airport page replied, "Nobody who tries to bring it through in hand luggage anyway!"

Projectile-firing weapons are banned from hand luggage as part of the airport's rules.

These include:

• Firearms, toy guns, replica/imitation guns, firearm parts (except telescopic sights)
• Airguns, pellet guns, BB guns, flare guns, starting pistols
• Bows or crossbows, arrows, harpoon guns & spear guns
• Slingshots and catapults

Multiple tools, sharp objects like knives and stunning devices are also prohibited in hand-luggage.
