Dublin Fire Brigade warn of unexpected household items that can cause fires

Ireland is feeling the heat this week.

While there’s plenty of fun to be had while the sun is out, there are still a lot of precautions to be taken — especially in a country where we’re not used to these kinds of temperatures.

The Dublin Fire Brigade has issued a warning on its Twitter page, alerting the public to unexpected household items that can actually lead to fires.

The DFB has warned that mirrors, crystals and glasses left on windowsills can cause fires. Cans of deoderant and hairspray can also explode under the pressure of heat.

“Mirrors, crystals & glasses left on a window sill can cause fires if the sun is reflected on to flammable surfaces. Aerosol cans can explode. This fire was caused by a vanity mirror left in a window. Make sure yours are in the shade & remember the sunshine moves during the day.”

The message was accompanied by a video documenting the aftermath of a fire caused by heat reflecting off a vanity glass.

So it might be worth running a check on your windowsills around the house and making sure you’ve not got any comically oversized magnifying glasses pointed directly at a pile of matches anywhere. You’re just asking for disaster.
