This is the second gorse fire in Dublin in 24 hours.

Dublin Fire Brigade has shared images of a gorse fire in Sutton on Friday morning, warning the general public of the dangers in the area.

Two fire engines from Kilbarrack and North Strand Fire Stations are currently at the scene.

Thursday night saw Dublin firefighters attended another gorse fire in the Dublin Mountains at Ticknock. Firefighters from Rathfarnham, Donnybrook and Dún Laoghaire attended the scene.

DFB announced that they were expecting more of these fires due to the warm weather.

The fire brigade have warned those in the surrounding areas to be aware of:

  • BBQs in designated areas
  • Rubbish in the area – pick up all you bring with you/see around
  • Parking – access is needed for emergency vehicles
  • Cigarettes – leftover butts and sparks could act as kindle

An Orange Status Forest Fire was issued by the Department of Agriculture earlier in the week, warning people in the surrounding area that a high fire risk is to be expected until Wednesday, 13 June.

“Arising from current dry conditions and high temperatures associated with continental high pressure systems, a high fire risk is deemed to exist in all areas where hazardous fuels exist,” the statement reads.

“A high ignition risk is deemed to exist in public amenity areas adjacent to urban centres and on areas of open land at risk from illegal burning of waste.

“Increased upland growth levels and live fuel moisture, coupled with high humidity levels can be expected to moderate fire behaviour and spread rates at this point, subject to local terrain and wind conditions.”
