Massive blaze breaks out in Dublin as ‘smoke visible across city’

Dublin Fire Brigade has issued important advice, with its units expected to be 'on scene for the foreseeable future'.

In a statement on Thursday afternoon (Thursday, 6 August), DFB said it was aware of an industrial fire in Wimbletown, Ballyboughal.

It added that it had five fire engines, including a water tanker, en route.

"Thanks for all the 999 calls; firefighters are already on scene dealing with the fire. If you are affected by smoke, close all windows and doors as a precaution," its statement read.

DFB later posted an update, explaining that eight units were now at the fire, which it confirmed was happening in a car dismantler in Wimbletown.

"This includes five fire engines, a foam tender and two water tankers," it added.

"Smoke is visible across the city, and firefighters are advising anyone affected by smoke to close all windows and doors as a precaution.

"DFB would like to thank Meath Fire Service for their assistance, and they have sent one fire engine and one water tanker to the scene.

"This will be a protracted incident, and we expect to be on scene for the foreseeable future."
