Four people have been injured in a house blaze in Dublin, with Gardaí launching an investigation into the “suspected criminal damage by fire incident”.

In a statement to JOE, An Garda Síochána said they received a report of the blaze that occurred at around 5am on Monday (18 March) at a residence in the Aylmer Drive area of Newcastle.

“Four occupants of the house were evacuated and taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries,” a spokesperson said.

“The fire was extinguished by Dublin Fire Brigade.”

The Irish Independent reports that two of the four people hospitalised after the house fire were young children.

Dublin Fire Brigade posted an image showing some of the damage caused by the blaze to Twitter, with the caption: “Overnight, firefighters from Tallaght and Dolphins Barn fire stations were called to a house fire in Newcastle.

“Three people were rescued by firefighters using a ladder and the fire was extinguished by crews in breathing apparatus.”

Gardaí have said investigations into the house fire are ongoing.

They have also appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Newcastle/Rathcoole area of County Dublin between 4am and 5:30am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí,” a spokesperson said.
