More details emerge about the brand new town being planned for West Dublin

Here is everything you need to know

Dublin is getting a new town, and it’s going to house 21,000 people (apparently).

It has been a while since Dublin has expanded so vastly, so it’s fair enough we have a few questions about Clonburris, the new area being built close to Liffey Valley and Clondalkin.

The brand new town is expected to get the go ahead this week after discussions with South Dublin county councillors.

If approved, the 280 hectare town will house up to 21,000 people between Dublin city centre and Lucan.

The Irish Times reports that if the town gets the go-ahead, builders will be able to start construction of more than 8,400 homes immediately.

Developer Cairn Homes believes that the houses will cost less than €300,000.

But what about public transport?

Clonburris

The plan is for two train stations to run through Clonburris; the Clondalkin-Fonthill station is already operational and the Kishogue station will begin service in the coming months.

The Clonburris development website states that there will be eight schools in the area, although certain Adamstown residents claim that details are too vague for the moment and that traffic congestion will get even worse in the area.

They also believe two train stations will not provide adequate public transport.

Fine Gael’s William Lavelle told the Times last year that traffic concerns could make councillors reluctant to sanction the plan.

“West Dublin is choked with traffic. It will be a very hard sell to councillors to persuade them that another 8000-9,000 houses is a good idea.”
