Over €300,000 of drugs, as well as six handguns, have been seized by Gardaí in Westmeath.

€301,000 of suspected cocaine and heroin and the six weapons were found during searches of a residence in Mullingar on Tuesday morning and Monday evening (2 November).

The search of the residence, which follows a lengthy surveillance operation targeting persons involved in the sale and supply of drugs in the Midlands area, was carried out by Mullingar Gardaí, assisted by the Armed Support Unit and the Garda Dog Unit.

At around 9pm on Monday, a search operation commenced and approximately €245,000 of suspected cocaine and €56,000 of suspected heroin was seized by Gardaí.

Two men (early 30s and late 20s) were arrested at the scene.

They are both currently detained at Mullingar Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A follow up search of the residence was carried out this morning, where the six handguns were seized by Gardaí.

The guns will now be sent for analysis.
