Elon Musk seems to show support for Enoch Burke in social media post

It was announced earlier this week that the schoolteacher will be stripped of his salary.

The 53-year-old South African replied to a post about Mr Burke's ongoing situation.

The original post read: "BREAKING: Enoch Burke, a Christian schoolteacher in Ireland, will be STRIPPED of his salary after refusing to use they/them pronouns for a "transgender" student.

"Burke has already spent 500 days in prison, and the Irish Courts are now punishing him further. This is horrific."

Musk replied to this saying: "Wow."

Mr Burke owes the state almost €80,000 in unpaid fines for refusing to obey an order to stay away from his former school, Wilson’s Hospital School in Westmeath.

The Mayo native was suspended from the school in 2022 for his reaction after being asked to call a transitioning student by a new name and pronoun. 

He said he could not support a policy of ‘transgenderism’ due to his religious beliefs, and his rights under the Constitution.

Mr Justice David Nolan recently doubled his daily fine to €1,400 after it was discovered that he had entered his former school through a student entrance and tried to join a school assembly.

It was reported by the school's board of management barrister, Rosemary Mallon, that Mr Burke managed to get inside the school in what she called a "crossroads" between toilets and lockers that pupils have to pass.

He told the school's principal, John Galligan that he was "reporting for work."

The High Court is to be asked by the State to appoint a receiver “by way of equitable execution” to collect his salary for the outstanding fines.

It was initially reported that Mr Justice Nolan was going to dock his salary of €48,000 to pay down the fines.

However, there were concerns that Mr Burke, who has proven extremely difficult to cooperate when in court, could take up more court time if this idea was implemented.

The use of a receiver is more straightforward and will save time.
