School teacher Enoch Burke has been released from prison by the High Court.
Mr. Burke had been in jail since 2 September 2024 for refusing to obey a court order directing him to stay away from Wilson's Hospital School.
The secondary school in Multyfarnham in Westmeath is where he used to teach.
RTÉ News reports that this was Mr Burke's third time in jail for the same reason and that since September 2022, he has spent over 500 days in Mountjoy.
According to the outlet, in a hearing on Friday (20 December), Mr Justice David Nolan stated that he would impose a daily fine of €1,400 on Mr Burke if he breaches the court order by returning to Wilson's Hospital School when it reopens after the Christmas break.
This is as the school teacher is said to owe the State €193,000 in fines imposed for contempt of court.
