A raging fire on the periphery of a holiday hotpot airport has left it on 'pre-alert' with concerns travel plans might be affected.
Witnesses reported "large explosions" with nearby lorries also on fire.
Palma de Mallorca Airport has been put on "pre-alert" as smoke billows into the sky on the edge of the airport following a fire which reportedly started inside the Mercapalma food storage plant.
As per Metro, witnesses also reported explosions.
The incident occurred at around 15:15 on Monday afternoon and has required a major response, as per Mallorca Daily Bulletin.
Emergency services are already at the scene to tackle the blaze with airport operations not affected for the moment.
Local residents were urged to stay at home until the smoke clears.
Mallorca Daily Bulletin reported that the fire began in a lorry before quickly spreading to other vehicles near a fuel storage unit.
The outlet reports that two firefighters on the scene have had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
It added that due to the amount of fuel at the site, the fire is "burning very fiercely and is proving difficult to bring under control."
