The news comes as tension rises between Russia and the West regarding Ukraine.

The US has reportedly ordered the families of its embassy staff in Ukraine to start leaving the country as soon as Monday.

Reports of this come as tension rises between Russia and the West regarding Ukraine.

Western countries, including the US and UK, have expressed concern about a Russian military build-up along the country’s border with Ukraine, a former Soviet state.

Though Russia has denied it is planning to invade its neighbour, it is demanding that Ukraine never becomes a member of NATO, that the two end their security alliance and that the number of NATO troops in eastern Europe is cut.

On Saturday (22 January), Fox News said it has been told by US officials that the US State Department has ordered families of its embassy personnel in Kyiv to begin leaving Ukraine from early next week.

One official told the outlet that the State Department is also expected next week to encourage Americans to begin leaving Ukraine by commercial flights “while those are still available.”
