Man in his 40s dies following fatal assault in Kilkenny

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Gardaí are investigating “all circumstances” surrounding a fatal assault that took place in Kilkenny on Tuesday, 3 May.

The incident took place on Hebron Road at approximately 12.45pm.

A man aged in his 40s was discovered with serious injuries once Gardaí attended the scene.

The man was taken to St. Luke’s General Hospital where he subsequently passed away.

A man aged in his late 20s was arrested at the scene and has been taken to Kilkenny Garda Station where he is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene at Hebron Road has been preserved in order to allow for a technical examination to take place. The office of the State Pathologist has been notified of the details.

Gardaí in Kilkenny are appealing to any person who have may information in relation to the incident to make contact with them.

Anyone who was on Hebron Road on Tuesday afternoon between 12.30pm and 1pm, including any road users who may have camera footage – including dash-cam – is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
