Gardaí appeal for witnesses following fatal shooting in Dublin

The shooting took place on Friday night.

Gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Dublin are appealing to the public for information.

At approximately 11:15pm on Friday 5 October, a 45-year-old man was confronted and shot a number of times by two armed men when he answered a call to the door of his home on Poppintree Crescent, Ballymun.

It is understood that the two men fled the scene on foot in the direction of nearby Poppintree Park.

Speaking from the scene of the incident, Superintendent Brian Daly said:

“It’s understood two armed men involved in the incident left the scene on foot and entered Poppintree Park before exiting onto Willow Park road.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 10pm and 12 midnight to contact us here at the incident room at Ballymun Garda Station.”

As of Saturday afternoon, members of the Garda Technical Bureau are continuing to examine the scene.

The body of the deceased has been removed to the city morgue for a post-mortem examination and a search operation is continuing in Poppintree Park involving the Divisional Search Unit.

No arrests have been made to date and enquires are ongoing.
