It comes as there is “a good deal of uncertainty” over what the weather will be like on the Christmas weekend.

Met Éireann has issued two new Status Yellow wind warnings, applying to five counties.

The first is for Galway and Mayo and is valid from 4.45pm on Monday (19 December) until 6am on Wednesday.

“South to southwest winds will occasionally reach mean speeds of 50 to 60 km/hr and gusts of 90 to 100 km/hr (in western areas mainly),” it reads.

The second applies to Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo and will take effect from 12am to 6am on Wednesday and warns of the same conditions.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann’s forecast for the next few days says weather will be “rather unsettled, and windy at first, with spells of rain and showers.”

“A good deal of uncertainty for Christmas weekend but current indications suggest it will continue unsettled,” it reads.
