Five dead, including two children, after British motorway crash

A third child is in hospital with serious injuries

Two children are among five dead after a crash on the M6 involving two vehicles.

The collision happened on the M6 Northbound, past Tebay services, on Tuesday afternoon at 16:04.

A man, woman and two children from Glasgow travelling in a Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene, alongside the driver of a Skoda, who was from Cambridgeshire, Cumbria Police said.

A third child, who was in the Toyota, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious injuries.

Specially trained officers are supporting the families of those involved, police say.

The M6 Northbound was shut from J36 to J39 following the collision but reopened fully in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the fatal crash.
