Floods, heavy rain and high winds; another beautiful weekend on the way

The folks at Met Eireann have some grim news for us all this morning…

We know it is meant to be grim in January but this year has been particularly bad. Almost from January 1 Ireland has taken a battering, with the west coast especially suffering the brunt of very high winds, torrential rain,  and flooding.

And the forecast for this weekend is for more of the same, especially for the battered west. Friday morning will be, yep, wet and windy with heavy rain or sleet in all areas but it is Friday night that the real horror show begins.

This is the outlook, according to the Met Eireann website;

On Friday night, heavy showers of rain, hail and sleet will continue and will fall as snow in places. It will become increasingly windy overnight. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees.

Saturday will be very windy or stormy with widespread heavy showers of rain, hail and sleet. Westerly winds will be strong to gale force with severe gusts of between 90 and 130 km/hr. The winds will be strongest in coastal counties of the southwest, west and north. The strong winds along with very high waves and high tides may cause coastal flooding. Highest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees

On Sunday the rest of the country will see conditions improve but showers will continue in the west and Sunday night brings yet more heavy rain and strong winds from the south.

Oh yeah, and they reckon Monday will be wall-to-wall rain too. Better buy a few more raincoats, the one I have is almost worn out.
