The latest from the Florida School Shooting on Wednesday.

The death toll from Wednesday’s shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida has reached 17, with both children and adults among the fatalities.

Police arrested 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, a former student at the school, at the scene and continue to question him after he opened fire using an AR-15 rifle. He had entered the school with ‘multiple magazines’, according to police.

Inside the school, 12 people were found dead while two more were killed outside the building. One was killed in the street, while the final two casualties died later in hospital.

While no victims’ names were released, it was revealed that a football coach was among the dead. Fifteen victims remain in hospital: five in a life-threatening condition and 10 with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Cruz had attended Marjory Stoneman but was expelled for disciplinary reasons. Students at the school claim that he had previously brought guns to the school and was considered a risk to their safety.

The Florida shooting is one of eight in the United States so far in 2018 that has caused injury or death; it is also the eighth deadliest school shooting in history.
