Former All-Ireland winner arrested and questioned over alleged attack on child

A former All-Ireland winner was arrested and questioned, on Monday [February 19] about an alleged attack on a 12-year-old boy, last year. It was reported by The Daily Mail that the boy was among a group that were trespassing on a private property in the West of the country. What started as a verbal altercation turned violent with the boy sustaining injuries. A week after the alleged assault, it has been reported, the parents of the child 'made a criminal complaint and an official Garda investigation started'. RTÉ have reported that the boy was 'seriously injured' in the attack and taken to University Hospital in Limerick, where he was treated. The man who allegedly assaulted the 12-year-old is a retired GAA star, who has won an All-Ireland. In a statement on Wednesday [February 21], gardaí said they are investigating an alleged assault on a male child that occurred at a premises on Thursday, 5 October 2023. The statement reads:

"The man was detained at a garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. He has since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

"Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone with any information in relation to this incident to contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station." Read more:
