Two adults and two teens were rescued.

Four people have been rescued after a boat ran aground in Lough Swilly in Donegal on Thursday night (26 August).

An RNLI spokesperson told JOE that the Lough Swilly Lifeboat Station received a call last night at around 11.30pm regarding a boat that had gotten into difficulty in the water.

The spokesperson described the conditions at the time as “very foggy”, stating that visibility was “very poor”.

The boat ran up on a rock in Lough Swilly and became stuck.

As such, the lifeboat station launched its Shannon Class Lifeboat and detected the boat in difficulty via its radar.

The four people, who consisted of two adults and two teenagers, were recovered despite the dense fog and were taken back to the pier in Buncrana.

No one was injured during the incident.

According to the RNLI spokesperson, there is an ongoing attempt being made at the moment to salvage the grounded boat.

The RNLI reminded people that if they are having difficulty in the water to call the coastguard by dialling 999 or 112.
