The cyclist was arrested a short time later.

A Garda car crashed into a wall in Dublin on Thursday evening while attempting to stop a cyclist.

The incident occurred around 7.20pm during a routine patrol in Rathmines where Gardaí tried to request a pedal cyclist to pull over. However, the cyclist evaded the Gardaí and the Garda car hit a wall.

Following the collision on Claireville Road, a Garda was taken to St. James Hospital as a precaution but suffered no serious injuries. The driver of the Garda car was not injured.

The pedal cyclist was later stopped further up the road by Gardaí and arrested. Approximately €5,000 worth of cannabis and cocaine was found on him and seized.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Rathmines Garda station.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
