Garda patrol car struck by gun shot in Tallaght overnight

A man armed with a handgun fired a number of shots towards the Garda vehicle.

GardaĆ­ are investigating a shooting incident that occurred shortly after 2.30am on Saturday morning in the Rossfield Avenue area of Tallaght in Dublin.

A marked Garda patrol car with unarmed uniform GardaĆ­ was on patrol in the area when they came across three men – one in possession of a handgun and one in possession of a baseball bat.

The man armed with the handgun discharged a number of shots towards the Garda patrol car, with one of these striking the vehicle. All three men then fled the scene.

No GardaĆ­ were injured during this incident and aĀ technical examination will take place this morning.

There have been no arrests made in connection with the incident, though investigations are ongoing.

“GardaĆ­ in Tallaght are appealing to anyone who has any information or footage (including dash cam) to come forward to them,” a Garda spokesperson said.
