Gardaí are appealing to any road users who may have dash-cam footage of the incident to make it available.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the death of a man in his 80s in a three-car crash in Galway.

The fatal road traffic collision occurred shortly before 1pm on Thursday at the intersection of the M6 and M17.

Three cars travelling on the Eastbound lane of the M6 were involved in the collision.

The man in his 80s was the driver of one of these vehicles and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passenger of this vehicle – a woman in her 80s – was taken to Galway University Hospital for treatment, along with the two female drivers of the other cars who are aged in their 20s and 60s.

A Garda spokesperson said on Friday that “two women remain in hospital”.

Gardaí investigating the crash are appealing to anyone who may have been travelling on the East or Westbound lanes of the M6 between 12.40pm and 1pm on Thursday and who may have witnessed this collision to make contact with them.

“In particular, Gardaí are appealing to any road users who were on the road during this period who may have video footage (including dash-cam footage) to make this footage available to Gardaí,” the Garda spokesperson said.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
