Another member of the Gardaí is being treated following an attack by a dog.

Following a number of searches in South Dublin on Saturday night, several members of the Gardaí were attacked, with two brought to the hospital for their injuries.

As reported by RTE, the police force were investigating drug dealing activities in the Carrickmines area of the city when they stopped a man for a drugs search, but he ran into a nearby home, slamming the door shut behind him.

Soon afterwards, three men came back out of the home, one armed with a metal baseball bat, who proceeded to assault one of the officers, hitting him in the face, arms and body.

More people arrived and attacked the male and female Garda, who were forced to withdraw even as more officers arrived.

A Garda from the Armed Support Unit was bitten by a dog, and eventually a number of people were restrained, and one 58-year-old man was arrested and brought to Dun Laoghaire Garda Station.

Two of the Gardaí were brought to Tallaght hospital to have their wounds treated – one for dog bites, and the other for the injuries resulting from the baseball bat attack.
