Garda searches Cork

Gardaí are looking into the possibility that an attack on a priest in Kildare Town on Thursday was racially motivated.

Father Manuel Karipott, who is of Indian descent, was attacked in the town at around 10pm. Kildare Now has reported that Gardaí believe that there were two men involved in the attack, and that they appear to have been armed with a glass bottle.

Kildare Now and the Daily Mail Ireland have further reported that the attack was unprovoked, and resulted in injuries to Fr. Karipott’s mouth and eyes. He is not currently in hospital, though he was originally brought to Naas Hospital for his injuries. The priest’s phone was also stolen in the incident.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident and the nature of the incident, while Fr. Karipott recovers from his injuries.
