The video was initially posted on TikTok, and has subsequently been shared across a number of social media channels.

An Garda Síochána is investigating a report of an alleged racially motivated incident which occurred on 14 August in the Dublin 15 area.

The incident saw a woman pushed into the Royal Canal in Dublin, after having allegedly been racially abused.

Footage of the video has been shared widely, and it shows the woman asking a group of boys not to be racist, before she is shoved into the canal.

In a statement issued to JOE, An Garda Síochána said that it takes hate crime seriously, and that each and every hate crime reported to Gardaí is professionally investigated and victims are supported during the criminal justice process.

“The Garda Diversity and Integration Strategy 2019 – 2021 has a significant focus on enhancing the identification, reporting, investigation and prosecution of hate crimes and An Garda Síochána is taking actions to improve internal recording and encourage more reporting by the public.”

An Garda Síochána also said it would encourage anyone who feels they have been the victim of a hate crime to report the matter directly to An Garda Síochána and not to 3rd parties or on social media.
