Gardaí make five arrests for burglary in Mayo as part of Operation Thor

Five men, including one 15-year-old, have been arrested in Mayo in connection with a burglary that took place on Friday, 20 September.

In a statement issued this morning, An Garda Síochána confirmed that all the men were arrested at one property in the Ballinrobe area of Mayo, after a house was burglarised in Claremorris.

All five were detained under the provisions of Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Castlebar and Westport Garda stations for questioning in relation to several burglaries and related incidents on 20 September.

Additionally, a “high powered car” and a commercial van were seized from the group during the operation along with items of property understood to be linked to recent burglary incidents.

The arrests followed an “intelligence-led” Garda operation as part of the national Operation Thor, the purpose of which is the prevention and detection burglary offences.

The investigating Gardaí have also appealed to the public for information. They are particularly appealing to anyone with information to offer in respect of sightings of a black hatchback type car or any suspicious activity in the South Mayo area on Friday to contact the Incident Room at Castlebar Garda station on 094 9038200 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111
