Gardaí appeal for missing iPad and bag in Jastine Valdez case

The 24-year-old student, was abducted in Enniskerry on Saturday evening.

Gardaí are appealing to members of the public regarding the murder of Jastine Valdez. Having renewed their appeal for information, investigators have zeroed in on her missing bag and iPad.

Gardaí, assisted by the Defence Forces, have already found her purse and a jacket belonging to Valdez. It’s understood she had been strangled 45 minutes after she was abducted.

The suspected killer, Mark Hennessy, was a 40-year-old father of two, who had a previous conviction for assault a number of years ago.

Hennessy was shot and killed by Gardaí as they investigated the disappearance of the young student.

Over 50 members of the Defence Forces are working with Gardaí to try to establish a link between her and her killer.

Gardaí are also continuing to appeal for information regarding the movements of Hennessy and his black Nissan Qashqai, registered number 171 D 20419, between 5pm on Saturday 19th May and 8pm on Sunday 21st.

They announced that the would like to speak with people who were in the; Dalkey, Killiney, Ballybrack, Sallynoggin, Cherrywood, Rathmichael areas on that night.

“If you travelled in this part of county Dublin between Saturday and Sunday evenings and you have a dash cam fitted please contact us and make the footage available to investigators,” the statement read.

Valdez’s body was discovered just off the Puck’s Castle Lane area of Rathmichael in south Dublin on Monday afternoon. A blood-stained letter from her suspected killer, which included the word ‘sorry’, led Gardaí to the site.

Gardaí are still trying to establish a motive for the attack and are currently treating it as random and opportunist.
