Gardaí open homicide investigation after man dies in Cork on Sunday morning

Very sad news from Cork.

Gardaí in Anglesea Street, Cork have opened a homicide investigation after an injured man found in the Mardyke Walk died hours later in hospital.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a fire in the early hours of Sunday morning (13 October). An injured man was found at the scene. According to Gardaí, the man was moved to Cork University Hospital at 1am this morning, but was later pronounced dead.

No personal details about the deceased have been made public, nor details regarding the nature of his injuries.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has confirmed that a post mortem is set to take place later today. The State Pathologist has been notified and the scene is currently preserved and sealed off.

Gardaí are now appealing for any persons who were in Mardyke Walk area between 12 midnight and 1am this morning and who may have witnessed any activity in the area, or any motorists who may have passed through Mardyke Walk around these times and have dash-cam footage, to contact the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
