Gardaí seek witnesses after cyclist hit by car during “cycling event” in Kerry

Gardaí in Kerry are looking for witnesses.

A male cyclist in his 30s sustained injuries when he was struck by a car while taking part in a “cycling event” earlier this morning.

The man was taken in an ambulance to University Hospital Kerry, and his injuries are described as serious, though not life-threatening.

Gardaí in Killarney are looking for witnesses to the incident, which occurred at around 11.30am this morning on the N71 at Eric, Mollys Gap in Kerry.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that the driver of the car, a man in 50s, was arrested for suspected dangerous driving. He has since been released is expected to appear before Killarney District Court in the coming days charged in connection with the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing in particular to motorists who were traveling along the route at the time to make any dash cam footage available to investigators.
