Gatwick finally back up and running after drone chaos

Gatwick

Lots of Irish people were affected.

Gatwick Airport has reopened its runaway after almost 48 hours of closure after a drone interfered with the airspace above the airport.

However, it’s not all good news, and not all scheduled flights are running. The chaos of the last two days has continued to have knock-on effects for flights on Friday (21 December).

On their official social media page, the airport confirmed that “Gatwick’s runway is currently available and a limited number of aircraft are scheduled for departure and arrival”.

“Gatwick continues to advise passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling to the airport as departures and arrivals will be subject to delays and cancellations.”

There is still no word as to when full functions will resume at the airport. Passengers are being urged to check the status of their flights.

Many Irish people who had been preparing to fly home for Christmas have been affected by the fiasco and have had to avail of different flights, leaving from Stansted and Heathrow.

Aer Lingus has already confirmed that passengers who had been scheduled to travel through Gatwick today can change their flight free of charge.
