Duffy swore that if he received the nomination, he would run the most "modern, dynamic, interactive election campaign possible."

"If you want to be on the rollercoaster, make history, elect a President that is not just above but is not of politics email email@example.com," he said in his statement.

Nominations will open on the 20 August and close on 10 September.
Just last week, it was announced that Pieta House co-founder Joan Freeman was seeking nominations for the presidency of Ireland.
The Independent senator is believed to have written to a number of senators and TDs seeking support for her nomination ahead of an election later this year.
Senators Gerard Craughwell and Pádraig Ó Céidigh expressed interest in recent months as well as artist Kevin Sharkey, while former GAA president Liam O’Neill is also considering a run.
Craughwell announced during the week that he no longer wishes to run as he could not afford to formally join the contest.
