Duffy confirmed in a statement this morning that he will be seeking the backing of four local authorities to contest the Presidential Election in October.

Duffy swore that if he received the nomination, he would run the most “modern, dynamic, interactive election campaign possible.”

The Dragon’s Den mogul urged anyone that wants to get involved to get in contact with him.

“If you want to be on the rollercoaster, make history, elect a President that is not just above but is not of politics email [email protected],” he said in his statement.

Nominations will open on the 20 August and close on 10 September.

Just last week, it was announced that Pieta House co-founder Joan Freeman was seeking nominations for the presidency of Ireland.

The Independent senator is believed to have written to a number of senators and TDs seeking support for her nomination ahead of an election later this year.

Senators Gerard Craughwell and Pádraig Ó Céidigh expressed interest in recent months as well as artist Kevin Sharkey, while former GAA president Liam O’Neill is also considering a run.

Craughwell announced during the week that he no longer wishes to run as he could not afford to formally join the contest.
