German angler breaks world record by catching 37 stone fish… just for the halibut

Yes we fell for the predictable headline hook, line and sinker but f**k me look at the size of that fish!

Without wanting to tar all anglers with the same brush, some fishermen have a habit of exaggerating the size of the biggest fish they have ever caught, all by using the incredibly scientific method of spreading their arms as wide as the alleged size of the fish in question, of course.

German angler Marco Liebenow will have no need for exaggeration, however, after catching the world’s largest halibut fish, a 513lb (approximately 37 stone) monster some plaice off the Norwegian coast, breaking the world record for the largest ever halibut fish ever caught on rod and line by nearly 100lbs (previous record was 419lbs).

According to the Daily Mail, the fish was far too big to haul aboard the 19 foot boat Marco and three friends were out fishing in, so they tied a rope around its tail and towed it back to shore where it had to be hoisted on to the quayside by a crane.

Marco’s friends will no doubt think he is cod-ding them when he tells them of his off the scales capture, but he has the pictures to prove an achievement that will be very hard to bait.
