An 8-year-old girl has died and several people have been injured after police said they were called to reports a car crashed into a primary school building in Wimbledon.

Police were called to The Study Preparatory School on Camp Road just before 10am after a vehicle collided with one of the southwest London school’s buildings, MyLondon reported.

The Met Police said a Land Rover was involved and that several people are being treated at the scene for injuries by paramedics.

The school is for girls aged 4 to 11 and is located near Wimbledon Common.

The Met Police said: “We are aware of several casualties. We await further updates regarding injuries.

“Officers remain on scene. This incident is ongoing.”

London Fire Brigade says it is also there and has sent fire engines and rescue engines. London Ambulance Service says it has also sent a number of emergency responders and the fire service is also at the scene.

Merton Police earlier wrote on Twitter: “Officers are responding to an incident at a primary school in Camp Road, Wimbledon.”


“We were called at 09:54hrs to reports that a car collided with a building at the school.

“Several people are being treated at the scene. We will share further updates when we can.”

The London Fire Brigade said it is “supporting emergency services at an incident at a school in Wimbledon.”

Police then provided an update just after 2pm which read: “We can now confirm that sadly a child has died following an incident where a car collided with a building at a school in Wimbledon.”

“This is tragic news and our thoughts are with the girl’s family and friends, and everyone affected today.

“We remain at the scene and are continuing our investigation into the full circumstances of the incident.”
