Going to the Aviva for Ireland-Uruguay? You need to know about these new security measures

Carl Kinsella

The FAI have announced several new safety measures for games at the Aviva, which will come into effect before tomorrow night’s friendly against Uruguay.

As a result of the horrific attack in Manchester, all bags will be banned from Ireland’s home stadium — a move that has also been adopted by Ireland’s 3Arena and Royal Kilmainham Hospital, where Forbidden Fruit is being held.

The security measures are expected to slow down the flow of fans into the stadium, so anyone travelling to the game has been advised to leave earlier than usual.

“Supporters travelling to Aviva Stadium are advised to arrive at least one hour ahead of kick-off to get through security and they are reminded of new security measures,” said an FAI announcement. Security checks are expected to be more extensive, and all rucksacks and backpacks will not be permitted in the stands.

The game will kick-off at 6pm.
