Prince Harry has claimed he and William were involved in a violent confrontation that left him on the floor in leaked extracts of his upcoming autobiography Spare.
Despite saying he wants to reconcile with his father and his brother, the Duke of Sussex has made some extraordinary claims in his soon-to-be-published book that could make it difficult to rekindle any relationship.
In one extract, obtained by The Guardian, Harry talks about an intense argument he had with William over his wife Meghan Markle.
Said to have occurred in 2019, the Prince of Wales is reported to have called his sister-in-law “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.
The book claims that the heated row between the two royal siblings resulted in a physical altercation.
At one point, Harry says that William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and… knocked me to the floor”.
During the argument, the Prince of Wales is reported to have said that he was trying to help Harry who accused his older brother of acting like an heir.
Harry then says he responded: “Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call this? Helping me?”
According to Harry, this response angered William, who stepped towards him and began swearing, causing Harry to walk away from William who followed him into the kitchen.
Giving the Prince of Wales a glass of water, Harry says he then told him: “Willy, I can’t speak to you when you’re like this”.
The argument between the brothers is reported to have then escalated, with Harry writing: “He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me.
“It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor.
“I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
Harry writes that William told him to hit him back, an offer he says he refused as William left before returning to apologise.
The Duke of Sussex also claims that before William later left for a final time, he told him: ”You don’t need to tell Meg about this.”’
Harry says he replied with: “You mean that you attacked me?” as William denied doing so.
