Healthcare staff who worked in Covid exposed environments to receive €1,000 bonus

The plan to distribute the payment to Covid-19 healthcare workers was passed this morning.

Frontline workers who worked in clinical environments exposed to Covid-19 during the pandemic will receive a once-off €1,000 tax-free payment. According to RTÉ, the plan to distribute the payment was passed by Cabinet this morning. It is understood that healthcare workers in hospices and private nursing homes will also receive the payment. Additionally, the Cabinet are planning for a bank holiday to take place on 18 March of this year. The day will serve as a commemorative event, honouring the lives of those we lost in the past year. Next year will also see the beginning of another bank holiday, which will take place at the start of February in line with St. Brigid's Day. RTÉ reports that the Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath and the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly will outline the plan after the Cabinet meeting. Today sees the Dáil reconvene to discuss the possibility of easing a number of Covid-19 measures. According to multiple reports, the 8pm curfew for indoor hospitality may end as early as next week.
