Temperatures are set to fall further back, with highs in the high teens to low 20s.

It is looking like Ireland’s heatwave could come to an end next week as Met Éireann has predicted “more widespread” showers on Monday.

A Status Yellow high-temperature warning for the entire country and a Status Orange high-temperature warning for six counties are in effect until 9am on Friday.

In terms of Thursday’s weather, it will be hot, dry and mostly sunny, although the sunshine will be hazy due to high-level cloud.

Temperatures will range from 26 to 29 degrees generally, reaching 30 degrees locally. They will be slightly lower along southern and eastern coasts.

Friday will also be very warm or hot with good sunny spells. That said, scattered heavy showers or thunderstorms will develop in south Leinster and drift through the midlands into south Connacht and north Munster through the afternoon.

It will be largely dry and sunny elsewhere with showers less likely to occur. Temperatures will range from 26 to 29 degrees though it will be less hot in east Leinster and south Munster with highs of 22 to 25 degrees in those areas.

Heading into the weekend, it will be cloudy at times across Munster and south Leinster on Saturday, where scattered showers will affect coastal counties.

Conditions will hold mainly dry elsewhere with isolated showers and sunny spells. While it will be less hot than recent days, temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees have been forecast.

Sunday, meanwhile, will see sunny spells with well-scattered showers. It will be quite warm too with temperatures ranging from 22 to 25 degrees.

However, Monday will then bring further showers which will be “more widespread”, especially across the western half of the country.

That said, there will be bright or sunny intervals also. Temperatures will range from 19 to 24 degrees, with conditions warmest along the east coast.

Met Éireann’s further outlook for next week reads: “Rather changeable with showers on Tuesday and possible longer spells of rain mid-week.

“Temperatures falling further back, with highs in the high teens to low 20s and cooler nights too.”
