Here’s what’s in store on the weather front for the coming week

It’s getting warmer, but a lot wetter too.

The freezing temperatures of the weekend are set to clear the longer this week goes on, but the outlook is pretty miserable to say the least. According to Met Éireann, Monday is set to be a reasonably pleasant winter’s day, with dry and sunny spells ahead of a cold night, when frost will set in and temperatures will drop to as low as -1 in places. That’s about as cold as it’s going to get for the week, when rain becomes the prevailing theme from early on Tuesday morning into the weekend. Showers will be widespread across the country throughout the day on Tuesday and will persist in Atlantic coastal counties on Tuesday night, when temperatures will drop to between two and six degrees. Wednesday will be milder with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers and the same is true for Thursday, when moderate to fresh northeasterly winds will make their presence felt. Friday is set to be unseasonably mild, with temperatures reaching as high as 15 degrees in places and the threat of occasionally heavy showers ahead of changeable conditions at the weekend.
