“Your continued support means the world to us and Cian.”

A homeless man in Cork has recently become a homeowner through a generous fundraising campaign.

30-year-old Cian Murtagh, who has been sleeping rough for years around the country had been working full-time in construction, but could never afford permanent lodgings.

Having grown up in state care, Cian spent many years with his life in danger on the streets, enduring countless assaults.

He was recently found extremely malnourished in the Bansha Woods in Tipperary after a week-long search effort by people concerned for his welfare.

While he recovered in hospital, a fundraiser was launched by the Kelbehenny Community Centre team to help secure him a “dream home” and his dream has come true after hundreds of donations from across the country.

In a recent update, the Kelbehenny team announced they had managed to find Cian a home for €41,000.

While thanking donors for their “unwavering support”, the team said that the journey is “far from over” as there is still significant work to be done on the property.

“The new home requires extensive renovations, including the installation of a septic tank and toilet facilities. These are essential steps to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for Cian,” read the update.

“To cover the costs of these necessary renovations, we’re aiming to reach our goal of €70,000. Every euro donated brings us closer to achieving this target and making Cian’s new home a reality. The title of the fundraising page has been updated to coincide with our new goal.

“Your continued support means the world to us and Cian. Together, we can provide him with a place to call home and a brighter future ahead.”

The fundraiser has now, at the time of writing, reached a phenomenal €54,000 and is rising towards the new set goal.

If you would like to help out Cian on his journey to becoming a homeowner, you can donate through his GoFundMe page.
